So within the past week I have participated in 2 Focus Group Online Discussions and have been invited to another for August 8th, 2008. Each Focus Group pays $30-35. Here is how they work.
I got invited to all 3 Focus Groups through SurveySpot.com. Surveyspot sends me anywhere from 6-12 survey opportunities a day. Some don't pay, but there is at least $10 worth of surveys offered, not to mention the focus groups online. When you qualify for a focus group, survey spot tells you the incentive then a follow up email with instructions and a link to your group.
Here is a sample email from them:

Hi all,
Focus group interviews generally provide more in-depth perspectives from a limited sample. Focus group studies are held in most major cities. You will be in with a group of other selected people, talking and answering a question about whatever product or service the study is about. Thank you.
